It's a Jedi baby!

Josh and Annalee made my day when they asked me to shoot some before and after photos for Eisley, their soon to be baby! Love the name by the way. I shot their wedding a while back and am so glad they called me up for the next big event in their lives.

The shoot was going so well until I knelt down next to the San Gabriel River to get a low shot of them by the water, and I dropped my 16-35mm lens in! I was in shock for at least 10 seconds, with not a movement in my body. I think I almost fell in, or jumped in after it. Josh was insisting on jumping in to get it and I seriously considered doing it myself. It was too late. The water was nasty, the shoot had just started, and if I was able to find it on the bottom of that dark green water, who knows if it could be salvaged. I didn't want to think about it, but just get through the shoot. I did my best to keep it out of my mind for the rest of the morning and I was able to still have fun with Josh and Annalee, and Darth Vader (their dog).

Philip & Ashley

Philip (with one "L") and Ashley love to dance. And dance and dance and dance. This wedding was full of big smiles and even bigger moves. I had so much fun with these guys. The wedding was beautiful and fun and everybody was just so nice. I made friends with a bunch of Michiganians.

I love my job!

Jason & Kate

As soon as I walked into the room where the groom and his entourage were getting ready, I knew it was going to be a night to remember. I also don't think I saw Kate with a straight face all night. I know she was having fun, and that's all that mattered. Here are a few from the night:

Marcelo Nascimento

The first wedding I ever shot was for Marcelo and Athena back in 2008. Marcelo called me on Thursday at around 2 p.m. because he needed a portrait right away for some promo stuff. This is the kind of business that I hoped to have, one where clients return and refer! We were lucky to have Eddie V's in the Arboretum available to us for 2 hours yesterday. I haven't eaten there yet, but I have only heard great things. The shoot was a blast and I think we got exactly what he was looking for. Thanks again to Vanessa for helping out. She's always there for me.

Marcelo and Athena own Lucky 13 Cocktail Co. and have really started becoming well-known in the Austin area. You should check them out if you are planning a party or event.

Clark & Brook's wedding

After the engagement session and bridals, I knew this wedding was going to be fun. I had a great time with Clark and Brook doing the engagements, and not just because these two were so beautiful. They were very willing to take as long as we needed to in order to get the shots right, and they turned our great. The wedding was very relaxed and that always makes it easy to shoot. The ceremony and reception were held @ the Creekside in Driftwood, TX. The Salt Lick is just across the street. Is it a sin that I haven't eaten there yet? I know I need to. Cakes by Lori made the cakes and they were amazing. The shark cake was all eaten up within 5 minutes of the cutting so I didn't get to try it but I snuck a peanut butter ball. :-) Yum! The main cake was very good though. I wanted 2 pieces. The flowers were from Breathtaking Blooms, which were very simple and fit the theme of the wedding well. I really liked the Rosary, nice touch. Great day!

When you are taking a photograph, do you take it in that moment and envision it exactly as-is, or do you shoot with a particular retouching style/vision in mind?

I try not to think of post production at all when I am shooting. I don't really do much to photos in post anyway. It's all about the moment. <-- what a cheesy answer...

What's it like being chummy with internet sensation Leah Muse and occasionally getting mentioned on her blog? I imagine it's like being one of Truman Capote's society friends.

Leah is very much like Capote actually. She is always the life of the party.

Valentine

My Valentine is my wife, but that will never keep me from trying, trying to make her smile, trying to make her laugh, trying to surprise her. I thank God for her.

Below are the first few lines of how I proposed to her. I wrote this using a simple flashlight and a 30 second exposure in the garage. This is what I was "building" for her.

What's your favorite food?

French. I <3 butter!

What is the best meal you've ever eaten? (That someone else made!)

The last time I went to Vespaio I had a special that included homemade pork sausage with goat cheese, steak and baguette kabobs, a great version of Potatoes Anna, roasted duck breast with cranberry sauce and a "Tower of Goodness" - which is bone marrow. Scooping the marrow out of the shank is the best part. I tried this for the first time in culinary school and it changed my life.

The Pacific

The Pacific
I started watching Band of Brothers for the hundredth time this week. I love it, as I have mentioned before. Well, in March Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg will present a story that unfolded at the same time just 9000 miles away. I am pumped! Get ready for The Pacific folks.

If you could take a year to go anywhere and do anything....where would you go and what would you do?

If it took me a whole year to get anywhere or do anything, I think I would be sad. I would know how the chameleon feels though...

If you were filthy rich, what would be the most eccentric thing you would do with your money?

Buy a few pounds of Kopi Luwak. It's a coffee from Indonesia that is $600/lb. The coffee cherries are eaten by a local weasel-like animal and the beans inside are "left behind". Locals gather the discarded beans and process them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopi_Luwak

Favorite Star Wars character?

Boba Fett

What's your favorite thing about having twins?

The will always have each other.

What was your first impression of Robin? In what ways were you right/wrong?

Hott! Duh, she IS hot so I was right.

What would be your perfect day?

Realistically: Sleeping past 6 a.m., going to Kerbey Lane with Robin and having Eggs Francisco and 3 cups of coffee, trip to Zilker Park with the family and ride the train, PB&J's for lunch at home, nap, Alamo Drafthouse for dinner and a movie with Robin, come home and watch tv til bed.

Unrealistically: wake up at 7 a.m., drive with Robin to the airport with only the clothes on our backs, fly to New York, pig out for lunch at Lombardi's, take a nap in Central Park and maybe make out a while :-), go shopping for an outfit for dinner down 5th Ave. and let Robin buy anything she wants, eat at Daniel (famous French restaurant owned by Daniel Boulud), walk back to our hotel, Hotel Plaza Athenee, and open a bottle of Pernod. After that, who knows.

The Brooks

Robin and I got to hang out with the Brooks 2 weeks ago after a wedding we all attended... without shooting it even! :-) We had so much fun dancing like crazy and just catching up with people we haven't seen in years. I like to see the look on Robin's face when I dance. I am VERY white and it shows when I hit the dance floor. She laughs the entire time and I love it!

We all go way back. Deanda, Robin and I all worked at Starbucks together around 6 years ago and we used to babysit Odin when he was just knee-high to a grasshopper. We need to see those guys more often!
